How many calories should I intake and burn to lose weight?

Im 24 years old, 6 feet tall, 240 pounds. College has turned me into a lathargic fatso. After research I am still unsure on the amount of calories to burn and the amount to intake in order for me to lose some weight. My target for right now is to get to 220.
I recently purchased a bicycle to ride to class and I am swimming three times a week. I swim for aproximately 30 minutes each day and that will eventually increase. I ride my bike around campus anwhere from 40 min to 1 hr 20 min, but it is not continuous, class etc.. Ive started charting my calorie intake and have it about 1500 - 1700. Is this accurate and enough exercise or is there something I should adjust? I also need some explanation on if you eat 1500 calories and burn 500 is that healthy and all that sort of stuff.

I have been over weight my entire life and I’m getting sick of it. I know eating and exercising is the best way to lose weight but I’m not motivated enough. I think of great things I could do when/if I get fit and healthy but it doesn’t get me going. Any suggestions?
Well my mom and I have a deal, how ever loses the most percentage of weight by Thanksgiving gets to travel. I get to go to Vancouver for Christmas.

I go to the gym 2 times a day. I run in the mornings and lift in the evenings, including abs once a week. Is that too much? My diet is so-so but it seems that I lose weight very slow now.

Say for instance someone wants to lose weight in the stomach (what they call pop bellies, etc.), abdominal area (the gut) or hips and legs areas without any type of crash diet programs that are not successful anyway. How can I help someone who has limited activity due to an injury lose weight?

My boyfriend was in a serious work-related accident and he has been through 4 surgeries and now has limited activity. He can walk but it hurts really bad to even just walk around the house. The problem besides that is that he has gained about 25-30 lbs due to being laid up in bed for 4 months recovering. What can he do to lose the weight he gained? He can’t go running or bicycling or anything of that sort. Can someone please give me ideas for a diet along with exercise? Thanks so much for all of your help!

I am 125 pounds and 5′5. I want to lose 5 pounds first, get “used to” being 120 lbs., and then lose 3 more pounds. How many calories a day do I need to lower to lose 8 pounds eventually? Oh, and on the regular I eat about 2500-2800 calories. I really don’t know how I didn’t gain that much weight in the past :/

Okay guys, I am going to Florida on February 25-March 2. I am going to Walt Disney World and I need to shed some pounds. I need to feel comfortable in my own body. I am 13 and weigh around 170 lbs.
